Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok

Girl in Translation is about a young chinese girl and her mother that immigrate to america. It chronicles the girls journey from starting school here not speaking English, having to work in a factory with her mother after school and weekends, living in an apartment w no heat and roaches, and her fight to pull out of this situation. I kept checking to make sure it was actually a novel, the book just had such an authencity to it. I am sure the author wrote much from experience. The book is interesting and enlightning. I love the new perspective it gave me and it was a great reminder how fortunate most of us are here to have so many luxuries. From the basic things to heat and supplies for school to the big like being born in this country.
