Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

Loved Gone Girl so much, decided to check out another book by the same author. While I don't think Sharp Objects was quite as good, it was still really really good and highly recommended. It is about a young reporter now in Chicago that goes back to her small hometown on an assignment to report on some recent child killings. At the center of the story is the reporter and her relationship with her mother and a half sister she barely knows. Perhaps more disturbing then the murders is this family.

I did a 5k!

This past weekend I participated in The CRIM FIT in Flint. Granted, out of the many options, I just do the 5K walk, only 3.2miles and just a walk, this was still big for me. 2 months ago I was pretty much inactive. Any exercise pretty much just consisted of me cleaning the house, occassional swimming with friends on their boats, and maybe a frog hunt walk now and then, but not much at all and never to the point of working up a sweat. Especially for someone of my size with so much weight to lose, I was going no where. Having had enough of the steady weight gain, being so uncomfortable traveling I'd almost want to avoid it, and just flat out uncomfortable in my own skin, thinking about certain things coming up in my life that I dread doing fat, it was time to get up and move. I've started going to the gym 4-5 times a week, walking 3 miles on the treadmill. I've lost about 25lbs so far between that and curbing how much I eat. I have an incredible amount of weight to go, this isn't even enough for anyone to notice but me and how my clothes fit, but I'm still really proud of it. I am hoping for 15more pounds by my next doctors appointment in mid October. I still drink pop, eat bad foods, but it's just in moderation. Less often, smaller amounts...coupled with being active, it's working and I'm still happy. I've found a good balance. Maybe next year it will be the 8K walk for me!

Book Review - Defending Jacob by William Landay

My book club is starting back in this fall, and this is September's choice. Defending Jacob is about a well known and respected DA and a murder he is investigating that his 14 year old son is eventually charged with. It centers a lot around how the investiation unfolds, the court hearing, and most importantly this small family of the lawyer, his wife, and their son. The book was interesting in many faucets, especially in how the mom and dad react to each new detail they learn about the case and their son, how they treat each other, and where their thoughts go. The ending came quick and and defintely threw me for the unexpected. It made an already good read, that much better. Loved this!

Photo a day August 1st - OUTSIDE

I hadn't been paying any attention to what the boys have been working on in the sandbox and was quite surprised when I went outside last week and found this! I think they are trying to recreate the amazon river.

August Photo a Day

I thought this would be fun to do for August. I remember once I did a whole year, I could't imagine doing that now!
