I kind of felt like the jacket description of this book was a little misleading as opposed to the actual story, but it is a really good book nonetheless. It's just not as much a love story and so many other things, not that I minded at all. At the heart of the novel is a family of Prussian aristocrats and their Scottish POW farm hand that are fleeing from their home, by foot and horse, to safety. They eventually encounter a German soldier who is actually a Jewish man on the run for several years. It is once again another side and perspective to this amazingly complex war and such sadly fascinating stuff. I declare this book officially recommended! :p
